Welcome to Staunton Cycling Forum!
Since the early 90's, newsgroups have served as electronic forums that support communities of people with common interests or values. In our case, Staunton Cycling Forum provides an easily accessed resource where area cycling enthusiasts can:
* Announce or find group rides in Staunton, Augusta county and surrounding areas.
* Raise questions and discuss issues related to bike riding, cycling events, bike racing, bike touring, training, equipment, etc;
* Buy, sell, or trade bike stuff; and
* Tell tall tales (about biking), enjoy (or challenge) bragging rights, bestow praise, and chastise the deserved.
Some rules apply:
* No flaming, no obscenity.
* Posts must be somehow related to cycling or to the cycling community represented by this group.
* Under the RIDES section, all posts should be strictly informative and on-topic. To avoid confusion, in this one section, moderators may delete language or posts that do not relate to when/where/how long/how fast/what to bring/what to expect.
* If you want to post a formal/named event or race (ie: "Mountain Momma" or "Blue Ridge Exteme" then post it under RACES & EVENTS.
* Opinions, discussion, silly stuff, and other things should be posted under GENERAL DISCUSSION topics. But remember, our cycling community represented in Staunton Cycling Forum values civility -- be nice. We will avoid censorship, but moderators reserve the right to delete posts deemed to be inappropriate. Egregious or patternistic violators will lose their membership.
* Lurkers -- if you have something to contribute, please, don't be shy! Join and post now and again -- your participation is necessary for our community to grow and thrive.
Enjoy this newsgroup, and we'll see each other on the bike!
James
PS: These guidelines from Velonews are so good, I post them here as an addendum:
1) Content.
Keep all discussions tasteful and clean. This includes posting links to external sites. This site was created for entertainment and information purposes. So play nice.
No racism or any thing of that nature on this board.
2) Keeping the peace with the community. No blatant harassing or making fun of other members. Please don't be disruptive or start trouble or flame wars on the forums. Be respectful of one another along with the administrator and moderators. When a number of people are together there will always undoubtedly be differences in opinions and views. Be tolerant, respectful, and accepting of other members. If you feel another member is truly being unreasonable or a post of his/her is questionable, feel free to contact the administrator,we'll try to help as best as we can to clear anything up and keep the peace.
3) No SPAM!!
SPAM is a huge problem on the Internet, mainly with private email. However, many online forums are plagued with this as well. Any messages posted that's SPAM will be removed and a warning will be issued to the user. If the user posts another SPAM message after an issued warning, they will be banned.
Don't let this discourage you from posting links to other webpages. We can very easily tell the difference from a legitimate message and a sales pitch, so if you are a legitimate member you need not worry.
4) Have fun and enjoy yourself.
