I know we are all obviously riding in the Queen City Century (you ARE riding it, RIGHT?), but what other events are you guys planning on doing in 2009? Maybe we could create a list here so people can talk and maybe drive/ride together. Plus it'd be nice to have a list of "local" centuries and rides with dates, like Mountain Mama, Blue Ridge Extreme, etc.

One event that is tremendous fun that I encourage everyone to try is the Harris-Roubiax ride in Rockingham Co. The concept is to mix gravel roads with pavement to simulate the cobbled classic experience. This is a fun-ride that brings out a wide variety of riders from serious racers to dads pulling kids in trailers. It's free and there's no registration. Riders just show up at Court Square (H'burg) at noon on Sunday, April 12. The group rides socially to a starting point and then you ride 1-3 loops of 10-12 miles. The Harris-Roubaix is a blast and I can't wait to do it this year on my new CX ride. Keep an eye on the SBC website (http://www.shenandoahbicycle.com) in the days before April 12 for more information.

I agree the Harris-Roubaix is a fun ride and can be as hard as you want to make it.
I am doing the Camp Hilbert MTB XC on March 8th
Ohill Meltdown is 3/15 a MTB XC in C'ville
Blue Ridge Schools XC MTB race is 3/22 north of C'ville

April 5th, Ronde van Augusta, a celebration of southern Augusta County's gravel roads. Held in honor of the Ronde van Vlaanderen race in Belgium, coincidently it's also on april 5...
ride starts at 10 am or so and heads south for a few hours or so. James, Andy and I did it a couple of years ago, but we lapsed last year and hope to start it again. It's a week before the Harris-Roubaix ride.
Look for more information soon.

Great! I missed the first one so I'm glad to see it back on the calendar. I'll be there with the Surly!

I'm looking forward to it. We'll have to begin thinking routes? BIG CLIMBS? LONG NASTY GRAVEL? BURLEY CROSSWINDS? SNOW COVERED COLS? COLD SPRING RAIN? MIGHT BE EPIC.............

I have a route in mind, similar to what we did 2 years ago, but longer, more gravel, bigger climbs, wicked fast descents. E-P-I-C
A celebration of Gravel Roads.

The Harris-Roubaix -- a celebration of Rockingham County's gravel roads -- is this Sunday at noon at Court Square in Harrisonburg. While no route can surpass last weekend's Ronde van Augusta circuit (thanks, Mark!), the Harris-Roubaix is always a pleasure to ride. It's free, it's fun, the weather forecast is very good. Get out and ride! More info at: www.svbcoalition.org/events/harris-roubaix/
